Ironbridge Gorge

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, inscribed in 1986 and internationally recognised as the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution. The gorge includes the Iron Bridge itself and a number of former museums covering the area's industrial history.

From 2 March 2026, care of the museums, listed buildings, monuments and collections transferred from the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust to the National Trust. If you've seen older material naming the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust as the operator, that's now out of date.

What's currently open, and under what admission terms, isn't confirmed yet following the change of operator. Check the National Trust's own page directly before planning a visit, rather than relying on older listings naming specific museums as open.

Distance from the house

Reported as roughly 5 to 7 miles from Telford, but neither figure is a measured driving route from the house itself. The exact drive time is still to be confirmed against a live route.
